Gospel Light has been a rich source of inspiration for many thousands of readers for the last forty years since its first publication. Dr. Lamsa's work on the translation of the Bible from the Eastern Aramaic texts has enlightened the understanding of many who have studied it. In fact, his work was the inspiration for me to pursue a course of study in the Aramaic of the Peshitta New Testament beginning in 1978. This pursuit has led to the formation, in recent years of Light of the Word Ministry. Our main purpose is to continue to make available the understanding of the Scriptures from Biblical customs and the study of Aramaic.
This revised edition of Gospel Light includes several changes from the original edition. The first of these are small grammatical and formatting changes. I have updated older style English spellings and smoothed out the style to conform to more modern standards. A new font gives the articles a different look, while retaining the flavor and organization of the original book. The second area of revision is the addition of the Estrangelo Aramaic script for all of the Aramaic words that are explained in the articles. This enables the student of the Scriptures to begin to learn the language, for both the pronunciation and the way a word is written is in the paragraph.
It is my prayer and hope that this new revised edition of Gospel Light will continue the work that Dr. Lamsa began and inspire many more to even greater understanding of the Scriptures.
